Community Chest maintains a professional office led by Executive Director, Bob Block and Executive Assistant, Janna Strand. Additionally, the organization offers hands-on office experience to high school and college interns, volunteers, and neighboring students including students from Kulanu - Jewish Coalition for Special Services. The team works to support the local agencies who assist residents in the community. This includes securing aid from neighboring merchants to sponsor local events and fundraisers, and working one-on-one with clients who lack basic life needs.
Meet Our Staff
Robert Block has two great passions in his life – his family and Community Chest. He has been involved in Chest, first as a board member and now as its Executive Director for the last 25 years, combined. Bob loves being able to help those in his community, a community in which he has been a part as merchant, resident and Executive Director. He cannot walk down the streets of Woodmere or Cedarhurst without bumping into someone he knows. Working on events such as the 5K Run/Family Walk, the Annual Community Chest Fair and the Youth Board Basketball Tournament gives him great satisfaction to know that he is generating enthusiasm and love for this community that gives back to its local residents.
Janna Strand is the newest member of Community Chest. She is a native “Five Towner” and currently resides in the vicinity in Lynbrook. Already she has seen the impact of the work Chest does for the community and those who need assistance. She is very much looking forward to utilizing her non-profit management, marketing and communications skills for Community Chest events she has known since she was a child growing up in Hewlett. The significance of “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” is something she witnesses on a daily basis through the work she is doing as Executive Assistant at Community Chest.
